Abstract

Pregnancy is a period of concern for many women, and when associated with risk factors, it can have a significant impact on maternal and/or fetal health. Prenatal care and assistance become essential as they enable the prevention of complications and ensure a proper delivery without negative impacts on the health of the mother and the newborn. To highlight the observational experience in caring for high-risk pregnant women in a municipal maternity hospital in João Pessoa, PB. This is an experience report from medical students regarding their interaction with high-risk pregnant women in the Aurora extension project, from March 2024 to Nov 2024. The Aurora extension project, from Faculdades Nova Esperança, aims to experience and understand, through observation, the provision of humanized care during reception, pregnancy follow-up, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period in a maternity hospital within the healthcare network of João Pessoa, PB. During interactions with pregnant women, it was observed that many of them had significant doubts about the high-risk pregnancy process. However, the commitment of healthcare professionals to providing essential guidance stands out, ensuring that pregnant women gain knowledge about self-care and decision-making throughout their obstetric journey, as they are monitored in a hospital environment. This multidimensional and integrated approach highlights a more comprehensive care model for women, contributing to maternal and neonatal health promotion in the greater João Pessoa area. CThe integrated approach, combined with adequate infrastructure and the expertise of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrates a strong commitment to quality obstetric care. To strengthen these practices, it is essential to continue investing in the continuous education of professionals across all healthcare services, updating protocols, and improving hospital infrastructure.
